Worship is about giving glory to God for who He is,
while praise is giving glory to God for what He has done. When I worship, I
think about all that God has done, and I say God you have been faithful,
gracious, wonderful, loving, working wonders, you have been truly good to me
and naturally I say I love you. The way you say I love you can be different
from person to person. Like we all know, there’s different ways to show someone
you love them, those methods are the same when it comes to God.
- - You can show them through your actions: so that would be you being obedient, loving towards other people, helping the needy, serving in a ministry at your church and glorifying God from staying away from sin.
- - You could also show someone you love them by offering them gifts: you could do this towards God with tithes and offering. It could also be you blessing Him with your gifting and talents.
- - You also prove to someone you love them by making time for them (sacrificing your time): by spending time with God you are showing him that you love him. You could have been doing other things, but you chose to spend that time with Him. Essentially you are honoring him.
- - Finally you show someone you love them by telling them.
That’s what worship is. It’s all of that. It’s an
expression of your love for God. This explains it why some people get emotional
in the presence of God. Once you take in all the beauty that’s found in Christ you
can breakdown in tears because his love is too much for you to bear. It’s too
powerful and we feel that our worship will never be comparable or enough.
Though it will never be comparable, it is enough for him. Don’t let the enemy
lie to you and bring you down by bringing up your past. There’s nothing more
beautiful to the eyes of God than seeing a sinner worship him. That’s all God
wants. For you to give him glory and to acknowledge his splendour. Essentially
by worshipping (loving God) you are giving yourself away. You start belonging
to him and he starts belonging to you.

Exodus
20:3-6 (NIV)
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
